Redflex camera wins Dutch approval
ITS (UK) member Redflex Traffic Systems, a world leader in developing and implementing intelligent traffic management solutions, today announced its Halo 2 advanced enforcement system has been certified for average speed detection by the prestigious Netherlands Measurement Institute (NMi). Combined with Redflex’s existing NMi certification for fixed speed and red light detection, Halo 2 now offers a suite of endorsed solutions in the European market.
Redflex’s most recent advancement, Halo 2 is an all-in-one enforcement technology application that delivers a range of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) solutions. It leverages market-leading imaging, radar detection and computing capability. Halo 2 is a single pole solution delivering red light and speed enforcement comprising radar, flash, cameras and computer in a single enclosure.
Redflex Group CEO Mark Talbot says the certification represents a major milestone for the company. “NMi certifications are recognized in nations beyond the Netherlands simply because the testing procedures are so rigorous and thorough,” he said. “For Halo 2 to hold all major NMi criminal enforcement certifications, is a testament to its capability and quality as a solution.”
To receive the average speed accreditation, Halo 2 was tested to strict standards for nearly a year. Average speed detection determines vehicle average speed over a pre-determined distance and is designed to lower overall speeds and drive compliance with posted speed limits. For Halo 2, the NMi testing included accuracy checks on a high-speed test-track, tests in extreme operating environments including high temperatures, water, dust, electromagnetism, and various other road and laboratory conditions.
The NMi average speed certification comes after years of significant research and development at Redflex. Halo 2 ensures maximum incident detection including the ability to take clear driver images and produce quality incident packages for adjudication purposes. The Halo radar can track up to 256 objects simultaneously with reliable lane discrimination and the system’s non-intrusive signal phase detection can monitor up to all nine traffic phases, including any combination of left turn, right turn and straight-through signals.
The Redflex Halo 2 design simplifies installation and servicing, and considerably reduces the environmental impact of the system through lower power consumption and emissions compared with traditional systems. The unique detection algorithms and advanced camera and illumination capabilities make Halo 2 suitable for many environmental and enforcement scenarios.
The Halo solution is currently deployed to provide detection and verification in multiple countries and regions including in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and across the Asia Pacific Region. In addition, it is the platform solution for major innovations by Redflex in Intelligent Motorway and Intersections.
