What does ITS (UK) do?

ITS (UK) is the independent voice of the ITS sector, with a clear focus on using technology to improve safety, increase mobility and reduce the environmental impact of travel.  Helping to de-mystify and widen the understanding of “what’s in the toolbox”, we encourage and enable technology-based thinking in a rapidly changing world.

ITS (UK) is the recognised hub for knowledge in future mobility and intelligent transport.  We actively support and facilitate the development of the “next generation” of ITS professionals, providing them with the knowledge and capability to continue to harness the potential of technology to create a safer, healthier, inclusive and more prosperous society.

As the knowledge hub for the sector, we share best practice and the latest activities:

  • Everyone within a member organisation is welcome to take a part in all ITS (UK) activities
  • The 14 Forums host free knowledge-sharing meetings
  • Our website provides access to 20+ years of papers, presentations and other archive material
  • The Annual awards recognise outstanding achievement
  • The Annual Summit/Members’ Day enables extensive networking and learning
  • We provide updates on relevant standards to all members
  • We facilitate introductions for members to relevant contacts in the UK and around the world
  • We produce thought pieces based on expertise of the whole membership
  • We publishes the ITS Review
  • Our website is an important source of news from members, updated daily
  • Our weekly newsletter shares news and information about ITS around the world – published every Friday lunchtime

As the independent, combined, voice for the industry ITS (UK) promotes the benefits that technology can bring to transport and mobility:

  • We respond to consultations on behalf of, and with contributions from, the whole membership
  • We create a collective overview of the industry through surveys of members’ views and opinions
  • We organise and deliver an ITS commentary in the media
  • We represent the ITS sector in the UK at international forums and ITS Congresses
  • We foster close working relationships with ITS Societies around the world
  • ITS (UK) hosts international delegations; members are invited to participate and provide presentations

ITS (UK) actively encourages and supports the next generation of ITS professionals:

  • Our Early Careers Forum provides opportunities for networking and knowledge sharing with peers
  • We have a Young Professionals Director on Council, specifically to provide a voice for our young professionals
  • Our Annual essay competition recognises and encourages new ideas from our young professionals
  • We provide Student membership – free for those at member Universities, nominal fee otherwise

ITS (UK) has tiered membership options to suit all sizes of organisation across all public sector organisations, and in the private sector from start-ups and sole traders through to multi-national companies.
