ITS (UK) delays subscription increase during Coronavirus crisis
The UK’s Intelligent Transport Society has decided to postpone a long-planned increase in subscription fees while organisations cope with Coronavirus restrictions.
The decision has been made to help members who may have had work cancelled or put on hold, some of whom have had to furlough staff. It follows an ITS (UK) member survey on behalf of the Department for Transport which suggested a quarter of private-sector members say the crisis has had a significant effect on their businesses.
During the lockdown, ITS (UK) has launched new webinars, shared details of online learning and even hosted a virtual quiz to aid networking. ITS (UK) is in frequent contact with international colleagues to make sure that best practice in using ITS in these challenging times is disseminated. Its members also stepped up to quickly help the DfT with its search for local traffic data to understand changes in transport use.
“Seeing how many of our members have been impacted, we have decided that implementing the increase would send the wrong signal,” explained ITS (UK) Chair Ryan Hood of TRL. “Our job is to support our members at this time; this is one way we can help, as is raising the profile of the issues our members currently face, supporting the Government with its Covid-19 response including international best practise through our global network of international ITS organisations, as well as rapidly establishing new platforms such as webinars and online socials for our members to continue to share knowledge and network.”
“The message I want to give is – we are here for you and will help in whatever way we can,” added Secretary General Jennie Martin. “From the DfT and devolved transport authorities through consultancies and suppliers to the smallest micro-SME, ITS (UK) values its members equally and we’re here as one entity to help each other. I firmly believe that, once the crisis is over, transport technology will have a vital role to play in the inevitable economic troubles we face, and ITS (UK) will be here to help our members deliver what the country needs to get us moving efficiently and cost effectively.”
The planned price increases will be reviewed regularly at Council meetings. Council is made up of representatives from Executive Members of the Society.
