INRIX helping warn American truckers of danger ahead
The US state of North Carolina is testing a system to issue an in-cab alert to lorry drivers about incidents ahead of them.
The idea is to help drivers react more quickly to stopped traffic or major slowdowns, making roads safer.
The state’s DOT partnering with a Canadian company Drivewyze, which will power the service using data from ITS (UK) member INRIX. The first-in-the nation pilot will cover all 182 miles of Interstate 95.
The new alerts will have messages such as âSudden Slowdown Ahead” and âCongestion Ahead” about 2 or 3 miles before commercial truck drivers encounter the slowed traffic or incident.
Brian Mofford, VP of Government Experience for Drivewyze, says this will have a significant impact. âWeâre leveraging two premier platforms to pro-actively provide critical safety information to drivers. By integrating INRIX Dangerous Slowdowns data, we can now work with states to bring real-time slowdown and queue alerts to commercial truck drivers.â
