ERTICO reports on 5G progress
ITS (UK)’s partners ERTICO – ITS Europe has released an update on its 5G-MOBIX project, which is developing and testing automated vehicle functionalities using 5G.
The research along multiple cross-border corridors and urban trial sites in Europe, China and Korea involves 55 organisations and companies.
The project has released a joint white paper with other two European projects, 5GCroco and 5G-CARMEN, outlining a number of technical, organisational, business and administrative challenges for the deployment of CCAM.
The study investigated Service and Session continuity as well as Data routing solutions, when moving across neighbouring networks, confirming they play a critical role in meeting the specified requirements of advanced CCAM use cases. Researchers say this entails significant, and currently unresolved, challenges around complex connectivity, configuration and routing aspects. Consequently, things like network management including radio planning/optimisation, frequency spectrum allocation, roaming configuration must be considered.
However they say the projects have investigated a multitude of potentially viable solutions will progress with the testing of the most prominent ones in the field during their scheduled trials.
