The 2014 European ITS Congress was held during June in Helsinki.

ITS (UK) organised a pavilion stand in the exhibition associated with the Congress, where four ITS (UK) Members showcased themselves, and where the approximately 150 UK delegates could base themselves and catch up with colleagues.  The event was attended by a total of about 2200 people.

The ITS (UK) Members present on the stand were:   INRIX, Mouchel, Arup and Nicander.  A steady stream of visitors attended the stand and found out more about the capabilities of these four, as well finding out more about UK ITS in general.

Katrina Chapman of Nicander commented:  “We would like to thank everyone at ITS (UK) for their excellent organisation regarding the stand, the exhibition and communications leading up to and during the congress.  It was a great event with excellent networking opportunities for stand participants and visitors alike. This was Nicander’s first experience of being stand personnel, we didn’t know what to expect but we are positive it was greatly beneficial and look forward to doing it again. Thanks ITS (UK) for making it happen.”

Tim Gammons of Arup said:  “The ITS (UK) stand was one of the prominent features of the event and as usual showcased UK capability in a coordinated manner, from the consistency of the set up to the support that ITS (UK) staff provided to all of the four exhibitors and guests to the stand.  The ITS (UK) stand provide an excellent venue for UK attendees to meet both new and old friends.  A big thank you to the ITS (UK) staff and support for making the event a success.”

ITS (UK) was also involved in promoting two sessions at the Congress:  one themed on attracting and retaining young professionals in ITS, and one on boosting the presence of women in the ITS profession.  The latter formed part of a continuous effort to highlight the underrepresentation of women in the ITS sector, also very ably supported by ITS Austria.

ITS (UK) is closely linked with the Congresses, through Professor Eric Sampson CBE, Ambassador for ITS (UK), who works as part of the organising team, and Jennie Martin, ITS (UK); Theo Quick, CGI; Richard Harris, Xerox: and Prof. Phil Blythe, Newcastle University who serve on the Programme Committees.
