ITS United Kingdom at Traffex
ITS United Kingdom, the UK’s society for those who work in Intelligent Transport Systems, operated a Members’ Lounge at Traffex where members could meet up, have a coffee, and where needed, a sitdown in peaceful surroundings. This was the third such Traffex Lounge and they are very popular with Members and other visitors. The facility was sponsored by ITS (UK) Foundation Members Technolution, Atkins, Mouchel and Serco. The Dutch toffee waffle biscuits contributed by Technolution were a particular hit on the stand.
“The ITS UK stand was well organised as always and provided a useful focal point for meeting people during Traffex” said Fraser Sommerville. ITS Service Line Director at Atkins.
John Pickworth, Head of Consulting and Strategy, Serco Transport Solutions said “Serco were once again very pleased to continue their long standing association with ITS (UK) through the sponsorship of the ITS (UK) stand at the Traffex exhibition. While the exhibition is undoubtedly smaller than a few years ago, it was great to see so many faces from partners, clients, suppliers and friends at the show and discuss the various forthcoming opportunities for our businesses.”
Ian Patey, Technical Director of Mouchel said “Mouchel was proud to sponsor the ITS (UK) stand and dinner at this year’s Traffex event. It was an excellent opportunity for ITS professionals to meet in Birmingham, discuss the latest innovations and share ideas. It was particularly pleasing to see so many colleagues at the dinner at the Botanical Gardens where we celebrated our achievements over the last year”.
ITS (UK) assists with the Traffex Seminar programme and this year put on a lunch time workshop on EU Government ITS developments with speakers who represent the UK in important EU fora such as the ITS Committee, the ITS Advisory Group, and the Urban ITS Experts Group. Their talks and the resulting discussion was another instalment of ITS (UK)’s longstanding campaign to improve UK awareness of and participation in these processes which ultimately result in specifications, standards and laws which are binding in the UK.
ITS (UK) also held the traditional Traffex Dinner at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham, a prestigious event which this year included the 2013 ITS Awards and was hosted by the ITS (UK) President, Steven Norris.
Traffex was generally very well attended and the mood this year was more positive than in 2011, signalling an upturn in the sector as Government transport spending is increased
