Intelligent Mobility Showcase at BIS

ITS United Kingdom, the UK’s society for those who work in Intelligent Transport Systems, has been invited by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills to contribute to one of its regular Showcases located in the BIS lobby in Victoria Street, London.  The Intelligent Mobility showcase ran until 24 May and featured MIRA, Ultra, Vysionics, Mouchel, TRL, Siemens and Nexus Alpha.

The BIS Showcases make use of the lobby area to highlight UK industry both to BIS’ visitors and to passers by in Victoria Street.

Intelligent Mobility, featuring Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) technology, has been part of the UK’s transport systems since the early 1980s although the highly integrated and often personalised advanced systems usually referred to by this name are more recent.  However, it should be remembered and celebrated that UK engineers were at the forefront of first adapting IT and communications technology for transport use – the usual definition for ITS – and UK highways authorities and public transport providers were early adopters.

ITS (UK)’s Ambassador, Professor Eric Sampson CBE, showed BIS Minister David Willetts around the Showcase on 16 May and said “This is a good opportunity for us to bring Intelligent Transport Systems to the notice of people outside the transport sector, and we hope it will help raise awareness of how these often invisible systems work behind the scenes to keep the UK moving “.
