Bringing innovation to road user charging and driver services
To manage transport sustainably, doing nothing is not an option. Uncertain budgets, increased demands and changeable policies – the problems might look similar to those seen last year, but to meet future challenges the solutions need to change.
ITS technologies are well established at the roadside and back office. Integrated application enables increased convergence in enabling a range of transport-related needs. Road user charging know-how is at the heart of many initiatives essential to create needed investment and to manage the true cost of traffic. ITS (UK)’s RUC Forum brings together public and private sector members to consider key issues – meeting the demand for better mobility; cross-border operations; interoperable payment services; reduced emissions; and improved sustainability.
We believe that to deliver future benefits we must seek out best practice and share expertise in an international setting. For fifteen years the RUC Group has welcomed colleagues from near and far, bringing specialist knowledge and insight to our meetings. Our meeting on 23 May is a forum featuring award-winners and innovators, kindly hosted in London by Arup. The planned programme demonstrates the breadth of projects currently under way in the UK, Europe and globally. Joining our group offers opportunities for informal networking, presentation and discussion to encourage, inspire and motivate future achievements.
Innovations included in the programme:
• All Wolfson Competition finalist proposals
• The Mersey Gateway – use of RFID
• E-ROAD GNSS truck tolling (Oregon) and RUC operations (California)
• Hungary HU-GO national charging & services
• Jenoptik new-design for LKW-MAUT
• DfT requirement for updating HGV Levy (invited)
• Kris Beuret Of the Independent Transport Commission – Attitudinal Studies
More details to be issued by end of March.
